At Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers the purpose of the Safety and Health plan is to help in the detection and elimination of unsafe conditions and work procedures.

A safety and health committee is established with representation from employees and management to ensure compliance with the safety and health program. There are specific procedures with guidelines to be followed in the implementation of this program such as forming a committee, frequency and length of meetings, recorded and posted documentation of minutes.

The activities of the committee involve in-house safety inspections, accident investigation to uncover trends, review accident reports to determine cause, review job procedures and recommend improvements, promote and publicize safety. Each employee whose job involves handling hazardous materials receives training in recognition of a chemical presence or its release (spill or leak), health effects, symptoms of over exposure, use of protective equipment, how to read labels and review MSDS, and the location of the MSDS files and written hazard communication program. All Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers warehouses are required to stay in compliance with OSHA and WISHA regulations, Department of Labor Safety Regulations, and EPA Codes. In addition, we require First-Aid training, forklift certification, annual emergency and fire drills.
